Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited situations in which another service may receive it. By using Clarke County Criminal History, you accept the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered into a search box goes directly to the outside company that operates the tool. The provider handles the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

Messages sent by email may be retained so we can respond. They remain within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, servers may receive standard technical and usage details:

  • Page-view times and the pages visited
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The referring site, when one is available
  • Your browser type and version
  • The network IP address used by the device
  • Approximate time spent on each page

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files stored on a device. They and analytics services reveal broad traffic patterns, such as popular pages and points where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some site features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Sending a search request to the selected provider
  • Finding and repairing technical problems
  • Measuring which pages visitors use
  • Operating the site and improving load performance
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Clarke County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Clarke County Sheriff, Iowa District Court, Iowa DCI repository, and Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention practices, and sharing terms govern information submitted to those tools. We do not control those practices, so review the provider's policy before running a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to courts, law-enforcement offices, Iowa agencies, or outside search services. After a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy terms apply. Review them before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their systems, not ours, perform that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may be received by:

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Search providers that process submitted queries
  • Advertising networks that serve ads
  • Government bodies when valid legal process compels disclosure

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices protect data in our control. No internet service is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. Identified information from a minor can be requested for deletion.

Your Data Rights

Rights may vary by location and applicable law. Iowa Code chapter 22 governs access to public records held by government bodies, while Iowa Code chapter 692 controls dissemination of state criminal-history data. Those laws do not make this private site the custodian of a government record. For information held by us, you may:

  • Request deletion of information we hold about you
  • Ask what personal information is on file
  • Seek correction of inaccurate information
  • Opt out of processing where applicable
